Beneficiaries

The government has approved the launch of the Lek Ladki Yojana for the postnatal empowerment of girls, effective from 1st April 2023 in the state, thereby superseding the Maji Kanya Bhagyashree (Revised) Yojana. This scheme is applicable to families holding yellow or orange ration cards. It is applicable to girls born on 01.04.2023 onwards. Additionally, the annual income of the beneficiary family should not exceed Rs. 1 lakh.

 

Objectives

 

  1. To promote the birth of girls and increase their birth rate.
  2. To encourage and facilitate girls' education.
  3. To reduce the mortality rate among girls and prevent child marriage.
  4.  To address malnutrition among girls.
  5. To ensure that the rate of out-of-school girls is reduced to zero.

Details

Under the "Lek Ladki" scheme, eligible families holding yellow or orange ration cards receive financial assistance at various stages in the girl's life. After the birth of a girl, the girls receives Rs. 5,000, followed by Rs. 6,000 when she enters first class, Rs. 7,000 in sixth class, Rs. 8,000 in eleventh class, and a lump sum of Rs. 75,000 when she turns 18 years old.

Procedure to apply

  1. The scheme applies to families with one or two daughters born on or after April 1, 2023, holding yellow or orange ration cards. If there is one boy and one girl, the scheme applies to the girl.
  2. The submission of a family planning certificate is mandatory by the mother/father while applying for the third installment of the first child or the second installment of the second child.
  3. In the case of twins born during the second delivery, benefits under the scheme continue for both daughters, but the parents must undergo family planning surgery afterward.
  4. Daughters born before April 1, 2023, and subsequent daughters or twin daughters (if any) remain eligible under the scheme, contingent upon the parents undergoing family planning surgery.
  5. The beneficiary's family must be residents of Maharashtra.
  6. The beneficiary's bank account must be in Maharashtra.
  7. The annual income of the beneficiary family should not exceed Rs. 1 lakh.
