This scheme is applicable to women who have registered for childbirth at government primary health centers or government hospitals in the state of Maharashtra, and who give birth to their first child (either a boy or a girl) at hospital facilities.

Objectives
- To encourage childbirth at government primary health centers or government hospitals.
- To reduce the infant mortality rate.
- To promote the health of both the mother and the newborn baby.
Scheme Details
In the Baby Care Kit, mothers of newborn babies will be provided with baby care kits worth Rs. 2000 to encourage them to give birth to their child in hospitals. This ensures that the children receive mother's milk and proper nourishment. Now, all newborn children born in state primary health care centers or government hospitals will receive these free kits. Furthermore, this scheme applies to the first child in the family.
Each baby care kit includes the following items:
1. Baby clothes
2. Plastic nappies
3. Baby sleeping mat
4. Baby towels
5. Temperature measuring device (Electronic thermometer)
6. Mosquito Net
7. Baby Warm Blanket
8. Small Plastic Mat
9. Baby Toy (Loose)
10. Baby Nail Cutter
11. Baby Nail Cutter Gloves and socks
12. Cloth for wrapping the baby/woolen cloth for the mother
13. Small bag for keeping all materials and other included items.
Criteria / Procedure to apply
Women who have registered their names at government primary health centers/government hospitals and have given birth to a child during month of pregnancy should provide information/application to the Anganwadi worker at the Anganwadi center. After receiving the information/application from the Anganwadi worker, the beneficiaries are provided with the Baby Care Kit bag.
